The Sharks have had a offseason they will never forget. First, they locked up Tomas Hertl long-term and signed Joe Thornton back for probably one more season. Secondly, after losing out on John Tavares, the Sharks decided to add another defensive star in Erik Karlsson. Brent Burns and Erik Karlsson will probably be the best defensive pairing this season. On top of that, they got rid of a bad contract in Mikkel Boedker and acquired Mike Hoffman in a lopsided trade with the Senators. Then they traded Mike Hoffman to the Panthers for a package of picks. They managed to add to their present and future this offseason. They are certainly a cup contender this season.
