The Flyers had a rough offseason. Even though they signed JVR, they lost their starting goaltending in free agency. Still making that a major need for them to fix. Claiming Calvin Pickard off waivers is a good risk they have to take in goal. In addition, they failed to acquire any defensive help and losing Andrew MacDonald for 6 weeks does not help their cause. It will be tough for them to get back to the playoffs. With the Bruins, Leafs, Lightning, Penguins, Capitals, Blue Jackets, Panthers, Sabres, and Hurricanes upgrading their teams in some positions, it will be a huge battle for a wild card spot.
